چکیده

Wepresent a refinement of the wavelet analysis technique for the detection and characterisation of small scale features embedded in a strongly varying background. This technique handles with particular care the side effects of nonorthogonality in the wavelet space which can cause spurious detections and lead to a biased estimate of source parameters. This novel technique is applied to two ROSAT PSPC pointed observations of nearby clusters of galaxies, A 1367 and A 194. We find evidence that the case of A 1367 is not unique and that galaxy-scale X-ray emission could be a quite common property of clusters of galaxies. We detect 28 sources in the field of A 1367 and 26 in the field of A 194. Since these numbers are significantly larger than those expected from the logN − logS relation in the field, most of the sources are expected to be associated with the cluster itself and indeed several identifications with galaxies are possible. In addition, CCD observations have revealed that two X-ray sources in the field of A 194, classified as extended by the multi-scale analysis, are very likely associated with two background galaxy clusters at intermediate redshift.

Theoretical Study of OH Adsorption on ‎PdxCu3-x (x = 0-3) Nano Clusters‎

Adsorption of OH on the PdxCu3-x(x=0-3) small clusters is investigated by density functional theory calculations. It is found that OH adsorbs in three possible modes including on top, bridge and hollow sites while the structures where OH bridges between two atoms are the most stable structures. The Pd-Pd, Pd-Cu and Cu-Cu equilibrium distances for most of the systems...

Scaling relations in dynamical evolution of star clusters

We have carried out a series of small scale collisional N-body calculations of single-mass star clusters to investigate the dependence of the lifetime of star clusters on their initial parameters. Our models move through an external galaxy potential with a logarithmic density profile and they are limited by a cut-off radius. In order to find scaling relations between the lifetime of star cluste...

Analytical Approach to the Mass Distribution Function of Subhalos and Cold Fronts in Galaxy Clusters

We construct an analytical model of the mass distribution function of subhalos in a galaxy cluster in the context of the cold dark matter (CDM) theory. Our model takes account of two important effects; the high density of the precluster region and the spatial correlation of initial density fluctuations. For subhalos with small masses, the mass distribution function that our model predicts is in...

A Search for X–ray Bright Distant Clusters of Galaxies

We present the results of a search for X–ray luminous distant clusters of galaxies. We found extended X–ray emission characteristic of a cluster towards two of our candidate clusters of galaxies. They both have a luminosity in the ROSAT bandpass of ≃ 10 erg s and a redshift of > 0.5; thus making them two of the most distant X–ray clusters ever observed. Furthermore, we show that both clusters a...

Extreme Ultraviolet Emission in the Fornax Cluster of Galaxies

We present studies of the Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) emission in the Fornax cluster of galaxies; a relatively nearby well-studied cluster with X-ray emitting cluster gas and a very large radio source. We examine both the large-scale (∼ size of the X-ray emitting cluster gas), and the small-scale (< arc min) emission. We find that this cluster has large-scale diffuse EUV emission. However, at the...
